| 2000 NIRSA Championships - Day 4 |
April 8, 2000 - Both teams had to play early in the morning in the single elimination championships. The Men's faced the BC and were just flat in the first game. They came back strong in the second game as they found the weaker passer out of the two BC primary passers. They took one player out of they game with their serves. In the third game, both teams traded points until a no-call for net on BC took the momentum away from UConn. They never seemed to recover from that one crucial call. No one could step up and put the ball away. This was the match the Men's were looking for all year, and finally it came and ended their season. What a terrible way to go out. The Women's won their only match of the tournament against Central Oregon Community College. They would next faced the University of Southern California team. They took them to the third game, but could not manage to take the win. This was the best they played all week. They showed a lot of promise as they will return all but one player next year. At this point, some of the Men's players heard a heated Men's Division I semifinal match and left the Women's match to watch that one. The match was between Arizona and Rutgers. Rutgers gave the defending champs everything they had. Rutgers was so close to eliminate Arizona from the tournament. The championship matches in the Women's Division and Men's Division II were a lot of fun to watch. Both matches went three games. The Men's Division I championship match was not as excting as the semifinal match between Arizona and Rutgers as Arizona reclaimed their title. Utah Valley could not stop Arizona's high flyers. The next NIRSA Volleyball Championships will be held in Kansas City, Missouri from April 11-14, 2001.
