Welcome to the UConn Men's and Women's Volleyball Club. Men's team competes in New England Collegiate Volleyball League (NECVL) while Women's teams competes in Northeast Women's Volleyball Club League (NWVCL). Both teams have again qualified for post season play in 2008. Teams are coached by Jung Park, 2007 NIRSA National Coach of the Year.
Men's Team: Despite losing three experienced starters from last year's team, the team has again qualified for NECVL Division 1 Championships (finishing 9th in New England). Led by the senior setter and captain Jeff "Eggroll" Sanith (All NECVL second team, 2007) and two excellent outside hitters Jim "Big Boy" Barone and Phil "Insane" Carlu, UConn Men's team finished the year with a strong showing at NIRSA Club Nationals (April 10-12). The team went 4-2 overall at nationals finishing 9th in Division 1-AA. The team's much improved defense was anchored by strong blocking of our rookie Middle Blockers, Ray Johnson (Fr.) and Stephen "Caveman" Nemec (So.) as well as great back court plays by Sr. Libero Jeffrey Stack.
Women's Team: Led by co-captains Caitlyn Hardy (All NWVCL setter, 2007) and Sarah Scranton (MH), women's team made it to the NWVCL Championship final this spring for the first time in its 10 year history. The team upset #1 seed Boston University in the quarter final and beat #5 seed Cornell before dropping a tough two gamer to Penn State in the final. Four players were honored as 2008 NWVCL All-Stars: Caitlyn Hardy (S, three time selection), Jane Sherwill (MH, two time selection), Megan Wolf (OH, three time selection) and Emily Fisher (L, first time selection). In addition, UConn women's team again qualified for Division 1 (Top 48 teams in the country) at NIRSA Club National Championships, April 10-12 in Dallas.
There are now over 400 Men's and 240 Women's club teams in the country, playing at very high level. If you are interested in participating in collegiate club programs around New England and Northeast Region, contact Jung Park who serves as the commissioner of both NECVL and NWVCL.
